Greenery for 2017: A prouder shade of okra

Video: Pantone introduces the color Greenery for 2017.

Are you feeling blue? Seeing red?

The many moods of 2016 have brought out a rainbow of reactions in all of us. Still, it’s probably best to look to the future for hope and renewal.

Pantone has a color in mind for 2017: 15-0343. It’s probably easier to call it by its other name, Greenery.

The official description:

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

The New York Times explores the process and the products of Pantone’s selection.

We applaud the decision, but color us biased and maybe a little green with envy. In looking more closely at the swatch, we think we see a familiar Southern staple camouflaged within.

It’s not easy being okra.
